Over four years ago, the RMC set about
solving a long term challenge for the club-- that of providing
permanent housing for its trail crews and caretakers. After many
years of hard work by countless volunteers, and donations from
many hundreds of RMC friends, Stearns Lodge is now complete!
Stearns Lodge, which was constructed from
August 2006 to March 2007, features kitchen facilities, laundry
facilities, restrooms, showers, and common areas for all employees
and also private quarters for the Field Supervisor. Trail Crew
members sleep outside in individual canvas tents around the building.
The location of Stearns Lodge has many
benefits. Multiple trailheads, the RMC's workshop, and Randolph
Pool are all within walking distance from the Lodge.
The building was named after Anna B. Stearns,
a long time member of the RMC and the founder of the Anna B.
Stearns Charitable Foundation, which donated a $100,000 challenge
grant towards the project.
Stearns Lodge is not open to the public.
If you would like to visit the Lodge for a tour or contact an
RMC employee living there, please send
us an e-mail.
