Weekly Hike Schedule

2007 Schedule

The RMC sponsors climbing/hiking trips on Tuesdays and Thursdays during July and August. The following are planned so far:

Tuesday, July 17 - Leaders: Jimmy Olson and Keith Dempster (466-3996)
Baldface Circle Trail. A strenuous hike of 9.6 miles, up over North and South Baldface Mountains, involving steep ledges. One of the most attractive trips in the White Mts., with about 4 mi. of open ledge with unobstructed views, the trail leaves from NH 113 about 0.2 miles north of the driveway from AMC Cold River Camp. Meet at Randolph East at 8 a.m. Children must be accompanied by adults, who are responsible for them.

Thursday, July 19 - Leader: Michele Cormier (466-5841)
Gentian Pond-Dream Lake loop... Moderate difficulty. Drive part way up Austin Brook Road and hike to Gentian Pond and shelter... Continuing on the AT hike up to Dream Lake and return via Dream Lake trail via Dryad Fall to the beginning point... About 6 miles total... Expect to get wet feet on bog bridges. Meet at Pinkham B at 8 a.m. Children must be accompanied by adults who are responsible for them.

Tuesday, July 24 - Leaders: Barbara Wysession (466-5525) & Joan Darlington (466-2409)
Sketching at Mascot Pond at the foot of the Lead Mine tailing on Mt. Hayes or hike to summit of Mt. Hayes (1750 ft ascent. 3.1 miles). Leaders promise that the closed route over the power house can be avoided after crossing the old railroad trestle bridge on Route 16, just north of the Route 2/Route 16 traffic light. Meet at 9:15 a.m. at the parking lot on Route 16 by the old trestle bridge between the traffic light and Shaw’s. Children must be accompanied by adults, who are responsible for them.

Thursday, July 26 - Leader: Michele Cormier (466-5841)
King Ravine with exit via Chemin des Dames. Hike up the Airline to the Shortline and Randolph Path to the King Ravine Trail at Pentadoi. King Ravine Trail to the Chemin des Dames. Return by way of the Airline to the Scar Trail and return to Appalachia by the Valley Way. Distance: 8.5 miles. Elevation gain 3,100 ft. Meet at Appalachia at 8 a.m. Children must be accompanied by adults who are responsible for them.
