Louis F. Cutter - Map of Trails to
Tama and Mossy Glen, Randolph, N.H., 1944
In the last year of his life,
at age 80, Cutter produced a large-scale (1 to 10,000) map of
the area immediately around the Ravine House hotel that showed
details of the intricate network of trails surrounding the old
hotel. Though drawing on measurements from his earlier surveys,
he dispensed with contour lines, producing a simple black-and-white
map that could be used by hotel guests who, because of World
War II gas rationing, were obliged to stay close to their vacation
quarters.
